If you're interested in a second season of Firefly, go Firefly: Season 2 - On Demand and fill out their survey. Who know if it'll ever come to anything, but it only takes a few seconds to answer their questions.

Well, the Browncoat Backup Bash has turned out to be all kinds of awesome--possibly even better than Flanvention II would have been. Read some of the details here.

All those actors? Big Damn Heroes, every one of them.

After a week of waffling, Booster Events has cancelled Flanvention II at the last minute. The very last minute--some flans had already arrived at the hotel, while many others (including some from as far away as Australia) were in the air en route.

Adam Baldwin shows up anyway. You rock, Adam.

In an effort to salvage the weekend, the California Browncoats are organizing a Backup Bash. You also rock, California Browncoats.

I got my Done The Impossible DVD last week and watched a good chunk of it last night. It's pretty cool and has a lot of bonus features. I was a bit sad that the June 23 preview screenings weren't specifically mentioned in the Interactive Timeline as that was the one I actually went to. But that's a pretty minor quibble. I was a relative late-comer to the Firefly fandom (I didn't watch the series until it came out on DVD), so it was interesting to learn about all of the history that I missed out on. The audio from an entire Q&A session with Joss, Tim, Ben Edlund, and half the cast is included in the Interactive Timeline--that one feature alone is an hour long. There were a couple of videos from Q&A's at other cons, but I don't know how long they are. I had to give up and go to bed sometime.

I got 10/10 on the easy quiz. :-) The medium quiz, however, looks just about impossible.

One thing that caught my eye was the fact that one of the interviews was with a fan who was wearing a WriterCon 2004 t-shirt! I had to wait until the credits to find out what her online name was--turns out that it was [livejournal.com profile] agilebrit. I think I met her briefly at this year's WriterCon, but I am terrible at remembering faces and didn't recognise her.

The long-awaited Done the Impossible: The Fans' Tale of Firefly & Serenity is finally set for release. For those of you who are going, it'll be shown at Comic-Con on Saturday night at 8 pm in Room 6B. They're taking pre-orders for the DVD here.

Went and got my tetanus/diptheria/polio and hepatitis A vaccinations this afternoon in preparation for the Great Cuban Foofy Drink Vacation and now my arm hurts. Tetanus vaccinations always sting like a sumbitch. I'll have a sore arm for days, which may make this year's first dragon boat practice on Thursday interesting.

Does being immunised against diptheria mean that I won't turn into a dip?

Somehow, I have managed to fall weeks behind on TV shows again. The only one I seem to be able to watch in 'real time' is House. I have several episodes of 24 and ER waiting for me on tape and at least one episode each of Lost and Desperate Housewives. I managed to catch up on Prison Break over the weekend, so I just have last night's finale to watch now.

Because of my behindness, I couldn't watch last night's 24 when I got home late after choir practice, so I hauled out my Firefly DVDs and rewatched Objects In Space. I think that's the first time I've seen it since Serenity came out - it's very foreshadowy, what with the crew discussing River's possible psychic abilities and her eerie weapons skills for the first time.

The physics of the 'Verse doesn't stand up to close scrutiny very well, but it's so nice to see a sci-fi show where space is actually *silent*. Thanks for that, Joss.

There was an exhibition of props used in the making of Firefly recently. Check out the name Jayne used on his fake medical ID in the episode Ariel. Hee!

ETA: The link to the photos needs a password now, I don't know why. It didn't this morning. Anyway, the name on Jayne's badge was 'Kiki Larue', heh.

Also, word is that Joss is almost finished writing the Wonder Woman script. I wonder which will be filmed first - that or Goners?

So, not my best day ever. Not my worst either, but still. The hormones are a-raging, the curtain rod for my living room drapes fell on my head yesterday morning because the wood around the window is as dry as sawdust, work stuff is not going swimmingly, etc. etc. yada yada yada. Boo hoo, poor me. The upshot of it all is that I arrived home tonight in a spectacularly bad mood. So I reheated some leftovers, poured a big glass of wine, and sat down to watch Ariel. (Yes, I'm watching Firefly for the fourth time in a year. What?)

Such a great episode, such a great show - how the frilly heck did it get cancelled?!? I wonder anew every time. Also, Joss has such a knack for choosing the right actors - love 'em or hate 'em, they do the job and so much more. The moment that got me this time: Mal's trying to get past the ornery doctor in the hospital on Ariel who is blocking his way into the med supply room. While they bicker, Zoe slips behind the doc and zaps him with the defibrillators. He crumples to the groud. Zoe just stands there, defibrillators still raised, looking at Mal, and says ever-so-matter-of-factly, "Clear." ::dies laughing:: I had to watch it twice.

It amazes me just how much of Zoe's personality is infused into that one single word. Somehow, Joss picks actors who not only get it, but can express it just right. There are a thousand more moments in BtVS and AtS where this same thing happens. How much do I wish Joss still had a show on the air? 'Cause a movie every couple of years just isn't enough. ::sighs::

I feel better now. Joss, he comes through for me every time. I feel more than a bit silly and fangirly admitting that his shows can do this for me - but, hey, it's better than heroin, right?

I can get on with the rest of my evening now and maybe not even bite Jim's head off when he comes through the door late ('cause he's always late). Bless you, Joss.

From Kirsten at e!online:

From junglejen9: Firefly. You gotta spill it if you have any additional info, please!

Kirsten: I've heard the CW is considering bringing it back as a series, miniseries or movie for next season. Hurrah! For you who missed my message board posting, on Tuesday, Nate Fillion, Summer Glau and Gina Torres were seen coming out of one of the exec buildings at Paramount, where they are putting together the new CW unit.

::hopes::

...but I get there eventually.

I just discovered the 'More' button on the Disc 4 special features of the Firefly DVDs. Which means, after all this time, that I have finally seen the Gag Reel, heard Joss sing the theme song, and seen Adam Baldwin sing 'The Hero of Canton'.

Yeah, slow.

Speaking of slow, I also finally got my Serenity stuff! I only ordered it from the now-defunct website, um, four months ago? It came via Federal Express in an envelope marked 'urgent'.

At least I'm not the only one who's slow.

Via Kristin at eonline.com: "A friend just saw Nate Fillion, Summer Glau and Gina Torres coming out of one of the exec buildings at Paramount where they are putting together the new CW unit.

Hmmmmm? Will Firefly fly again?"

Post subject: A Message for the Holidays

---------------------------------------------------------------------

So, here we are. So much has happened recently and I feel this is the time to pause and reflect before the New Year starts slapping us around.

We made the movie, it has come out on DVD just in time for that odd little Christian holiday where they celebrate not being fed to lions or something. It is number one on Amazon, and the old Firefly set is crawling back up the charts like a thirsty man in the desert towards a mirage. Does this make us better than anyone else? You bet it does. But it's not the kind of better than that causes you to look down your nose at anyone. It's more the kind that lets you pat someone patiently on the arm and say in a sanctimonious tone, "Mm hm, it's alright. I'll get you a copy of the movie and you can be cool, too. Just not quite as cool as me because I've been a Browncoat for sometime, now."

If you are like me, you watch the movie to assure yourself the future will be safe, you watch the extras to see old friends, and you listen to Joss' commentary and shed a little tear over good times. Waht's that? You don't cry in the commentary? Well, just have an emotion chip installed, you robot, and refill your eye bags with saline.

Be well, Browncoats. Aim high, as we have all learned that nothing is impossible (except getting Jewel and Morena to stop fighting over who is prettier when we all know it's me). Happy Holidays.

...'cause it's out on DVD today. Yay! I'll either get 12 copies for Christmas or everyone will think that someone else has bought it for me and not get it at all. That's just the way of things.

Amazon has named Serenity this week's Biggest of the Big, which is cool. Also, at time of writing, it's ranked #1 at Amazon and Firefly is #6, which is even cooler.

Buy a copy for everyone you know and maybe we'll get a sequel yet.
