People change. Once he'd been a geek living in backwater California. Now here he was in one of the world's great cities, vivendo la buona vita! Sì, i vini superb, le donne belle...
A spasm of coughing overtook him, leaving him flushed and breathless. Yeah, okay, that part of the good life wasn't so buona. But stopping smoking was hard – astonishingly, he'd actually learned to inhale and nicotine proved a demanding mistress. He really was going to quit this time, though. He popped another piece of gum into his mouth.
Now if he could just do something about the diarrhoea.
