I'm reading an article in the scientific journal Nature on the discovery of methane emissions by plants. This is big news for the climate change folks as, if confirmed, it's a natural source of an important greenhouse gas that was previously unknown.

Anyway, one of the sentences reads: "The main [sources of methane] previously recognized were microbial activity in wetlands and the eructations of ruminant animals."

Eructations. Heh. Scientists do like to sanitize things, don't they?

I'm betting the politicians will be more guilty of that. It was Reagan, after all, who claimed that 'trees pollute'. ::sighs::
