Spam

The content of spam emails just keeps getting weirder. My latest one included the following:

I stood in the starlight at the edge of the clearing, very very plausible." "Why not?" "Not enough cachet." "I didn't want midnight; but it was a counter trap for him, an insurance for me. If cachet. I wanted to be in London."

Do you suppose they use random sentence generators?

Either that or they were originally written in Portuguese or Italian or something and were run through Babelfish rather than getting properly translated. At least that's my leading theory...

Back when I was still running the magazine, we would occasionally get letters from foreign game manufacturers who had apparently done the Babelfish thing. They were nearly always funny, but completely incomprehensible.

Maybe you're right about the translator thing--I hadn't thought of that. It's like getting a few random sentences from a bad beatnik novel or something. :-)
