Firefly

Sheesh, I can go weeks without making a single entry and then I have days when someone needs to take my keyboard away from me.

Just wanted to say that I've watched the first four episodes of Firefly now and am getting quite into it. Turns out that the episode I saw when it was being aired was Bushwacked, so I missed rather alot of the introductory/explanatory stuff. Which would explain my confusion. Anyway, starting to get a feel for the characters now and Mal doesn't look like Caleb to me anymore. I'm hoping that they advance River's character a bit soon - the craziness could get old after a while.

Also wanted to say kudos to Joss for the sequence in the first episode when they're on the first salvage operation and cutting their way into the abandoned ship from the outside. THANK YOU, Joss, for showing that it's very, very quiet (like, no noise at all) in outer space. /pet peeve

Hmm, guess I'm going to have to find some Firefly icons.

Hey me too! When Firefly aired Bushwacked was the first episode I saw. I believe it was the second one aired, and I missed the premiere due to not knowing it was on even though I was waiting for it (way to go Fox!)

I was completely lost, didn't know who any of the characters were, and thought it was too much like Alien (well based on Bushwacked it kind of was.) I only saw the half of one other episode, and still not knowing what was going on, I gave up and waited for the dvd.

I gave up on it pretty fast - BtVS and AtS were still on the air and it just didn't seem as interesting. But with them both gone and various LJers raving about it, I figured I'd better give it a second chance. There's so little Joss around now - I can't afford to be so picky. :-)

Well once I watched the dvd and gave it a chance, I fell deeply in love. It surpassed all my expectations. I still love Buffy, but I may like Firefly even better. Possibly because it wasn't around long enough to lose any steam. Or maybe because Nathan is even hotter as Mal than he was as Caleb.

Nathan is *way* hotter as Mal than he was as Caleb. Caleb was kind of a big nothing - he came out of nowhere, was evil for an unspecified reason, and was killed off when no longer needed. He had no story. Though it was kind of amusing when Buffy sliced him in half.

One thing I'm enjoying about Firefly is the attention to detail and the completeness of each episode. When compared to BtVS S7 and AtS S4, you can really tell where Joss's attention was. It's become quite addictive already - I have a feeling I'm going to be ticked when I reach the end.

Exactly! Firefly is great in the way that Buffy Seasons 2 - 3 were great; they had Joss' full attention. When Joss gets distracted things like Angel Season 4 & Buffy Season 7 happen.
