Cuba Redux

So, it's back to Cuba again. Well, not literally, as I've never been there before, but theoretically after not going to Havana with my father last month.

After checking out hotel prices in New York - recovering from the resulting mutual heart attacks - Jim and I went in search of somewhere less expensive to spend a week together. May isn't exactly high season for the Caribbean, which means rates are lower, so we're off to Paradisus Varadero on May 20. Five stars! Woot! I expect it'll be stinkin' hot, but that's OK - they have a swim-up bar in the pool. :-) Also, I'll consider it training for Atlanta in July.

I've been seeing Jim for nearly two years now, but he lives three hours to the southwest of me - we've never actually spent an entire week together. I hope we still like each other by the time we get back.

I envy you with my whole heart. Seriously.

I know it's folly to bitch about the weather, but the cold/rainy vibe in my neck of the woods has me pining for sand, sun and foofy drinks. I'm having Puerto Rico flashbacks.

The weather around these parts has been pretty good lately - high temp's around 23C even (that's high 70s in Fahrenheit, I think) - which makes going to the Caribbean seem a bit redundant. But I don't care - I love the sun and swimming and foofy drinks. Oh yeah, Jim'll be there too. :-)

I hope spring arrives where you is soon.

Spring is very fickle, here. She's also lovely, with her darting eyes and rare buds, but sometimes a gal just longs for the horrendous beating sun of the homeland, you know?

I'm not going to Writercon because by some bizarre perversion of chance, Writercon falls on the same weekend as San Diego Comic Con, the superbowl of comics. I'd already said I was going and that was that.

It makes me form a sad moue. With my mouth. :{

But! I'll have the company of the astonishing astrid, and we both like cons and baking on beaches, and attending panels and seeing actors. So it's all good.

I'll miss you at WriterCon - I was looking forward to meeting you in real life - but you can't go wrong with San Diego. I have an aunt who lives there and she gave me the grand tour a number of years ago. I was deeply impressed with Hotel Del - I kept expecting to see Cary Grant every time I turned a corner. If ever I win a lottery, I'm moving in.

I had a dream about you last night. I think I was in California with Linus. You were wondering how he could be there and I was trying to explain that he'd come back for a visit. You were also oddly faceless, presumably because I've never seen your face. At least my subconscious didn't make you two-dimensional and yellow. :-)

I loved Cuba when Hubby and I went years ago. I found Cubans to be exceptionally nice and the hotel was the cleanest one I've ever seen. Although we stayed just outside of Holguin and not near Varadero or Havana, so it also wasn't overly "touristy" If you like pork, Cubans are known for how they cook it, especially if its outside on a spit. Yummy. I want to go back.

I'm sure you and Jim will have a blast!
