Does anyone have a recommendation for software that can change the format of a video from one type to another? Jim's camera makes videos in .avi format, which results in huge files: a six-minute video is over 700 MB long! Anyone know a way of compressing such a file to make it more manageable?

I use window movie maker when I want to shrink the stuff I've done on my camera. Otherwise you might want to check and see if there's another setting you can use to make the original videos smaller to start off with. I know mine has two sizes.

I don't suppose that Windows Movie Maker comes with Windows? Or is it something extra that you have to pay for?

Mine came with it.

Auto Gordian Knot will let you choose how big you want a file to be, and will give you options such as changing the Wav audio to mp3 to get the file even smaller. You can get it here:

I use Super a lot for work to change file formats.

As for compressing, not sure...
