Halloween Drabble

Title: Night of the New Moon

Jordy watched his cousin in awe. He'd been away a long time – Tibet, he said – learning not only to control his demon but to bring it forth at will. He was hunched over now, his eyes shut, breathing deeply and whispering strange-sounding phrases. In response, muscles clenched and swelled, brown tufts of fur sprouted on face and hands, and nails lengthened into jagged claws. The incantation ceased; the grin that split the monstrous face was filled with fangs, but Oz's eyes smiled reassuringly at him from beneath the heavy brow.

Whoa – his friends were gonna freak! Best Halloween costume ever!

Halloween Drabble #2

I had to stand in a long line-up to get my driver's license renewed today - you can blame this nonsense on the boredom of that unthrilling task.

Buffy chased the dark figure through the field, grumbling to herself. It was Halloween – all self-respecting demons were supposed to take the night off. Hadn’t this one gotten the memo?

She put on an extra burst of speed, lunged, and decapitated it with her sword. A large orange head rolled to her feet and stared up at her with empty triangular eyes. Toys spilled from a sack still gripped by the body’s hands. Confused, Buffy turned to see a small boy clutching a blanket, his lip trembling and his eyes brimming with tears.

Oh God.

She’d killed the Great Pumpkin.
