"You should have seen Luke."

Why, yes, I have started watching Supernatural. I'm up to the start of S5 now, which means I can read [livejournal.com profile] thenyxie fics. This is good.

I don't seem to watch "live" TV anymore. Time slots kept jumping around, and I'd lose episodes of shows that I wanted to watch, and I'm a stickler for seeing them in order. Sometime last winter, I gave up taping things altogether and just starting buying box sets. It was less frustrating in that I'd get to watch every episode, in order, whenever I felt like it, but more so because the series I really liked got cancelled after two seasons (Dead Like Me, Carnivale <-- OMG, what sadist TV exec cut that one off???), never had more than two seasons (Life on Mars), didn't release their latest seasons until right around the time that the next one was starting (House, The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Dollhouse, Dexter), or just took FOREVER to release anything at all (is S2 of True Blood out YET?).

So then I started in on longer series that started (and possibly ended) sometime ago (Prison Break, Supernatural). I even went looking for fanfic for a couple (mostly [livejournal.com profile] flurblewig's Prison Break and Life on Mars fics). Does Carnivale fic even exist? Did anyone pick up the story and carry on? Please let the answer be yes...

I couldn't decide for the longest time if I was a Sam-girl or a Dean-girl, and then I decided that I didn't have to choose: I'll take both. At once. Thankyouverymuch.

Anyone still read this dead LJ?

Dumbest. Survivor. Ever )

In other news, Bella and I did very well at our rally trial last weekend. They split the novice class into rookies (Novice A) and others (Novice B). Because the paperwork making me Bella's co-owner hasn't gone through the CKC yet, I had to compete in Novice B. There were several very experienced dogs and handlers in the class of 12 dogs, one of which gained two Utility Dog legs at the obedience trial (Utility is the highest level in obedience trials) the same day. My main goal was not to flub up the course like I'd done in the match and to get a qualifying score (anything more than 70/100 points). I rubbed pepperoni on my fingers so that Bella's attention would be focussed on me (she LOVES pepperoni!), and she performed like a dream. We finished with a score of 99/100, which tied us for first place! The other 99-point scorer was a dog who also competes at much higher levels in rally, and her round was faster, so she won, and Bella and I got the second-place ribbon. As it turned out, 99 points was also the highest score of the day, so we also tied for High in Trial.

I was completely blown away. Bella's SUCH a good girl! She's not exactly the retrieviest of retrievers--unless you throw the bumper into water, in which case she's quite interested (she loves to swim)--but I think she has a bright future in obedience, rally, and hopefully agility.

In other other news, less than two weeks before I leave for Italy! I looked at our itinerary the other day, and man, the trip over is going to be a bear. I'm driving up to Ottawa on the evening of the 21st. We board a bus for the Montreal airport at 2 pm on the 22nd, and our flight leaves at 8 pm. This means that we have a four-hour wait in Dorval before we even get on the plane. We arrive in Paris at 9 am the next morning, whereupon we have another four-hour wait for our connecting flight to Milan. Then we have to get on a bus to Venice. Gads! That's about 24 hours of travelling to get to Venice. I'm not terribly impressed with the company who has arranged this tour. Granted, it's probably not easy getting nearly one hundred people from Ottawa to Venice all at the same time, but still. 24 hours!

Assuming that I am not catatonic after all that, plus the jet lag (and, frankly, that's a rather rash assumption), I'm going to try to go to Bolzano on Sunday, May 25th to see Ötzi the Iceman. It's a three-hour train trip to get there, which means I'll be giving up an entire day in Venice, but I will be so disappointed if I don't get to see him. My sister thinks I'm nuts. It's quite possible that she's right.

Dexter

If you like dark humour and don't mind a certain amount of gore, Dexter is all kinds of awesome. I bought the Season 1 DVDs a couple of weeks ago and watched the second-last episode last night. I can't wait to see how it all unfolds in the finale tonight.

I'm really impressed by Michael C. Hall as an actor. He's gone from playing a slightly neurotic, gay funeral home director to a straight forensics expert by day, "good" serial killer by night, and he's equally comfortable in both roles. Also, he has Darla (Julie Benz) as a girlfriend.

I am finally caught up on 24 again.

Dr. Robert Romano, last seen squished flatter than a bug under a helicopter, is working in cahoots with President Logan. Hee!

Plot holes, anyone? )

Among other things this weekend, I watched four episodes of 24 - I got terribly behind when the Olympics were on. I never get to watch it when it's actually airing because (1) I have choir rehearsal on Monday evenings, and (2) I can't watch it late at night because I get so revved up with adrenalin that I can't sleep afterwards.

I'm still not completely caught up because I somehow managed not to tape last week's episode and have to borrow it from my cousin. So, I haven't read anyone's posts on it lately because, well, five hours behind (though I did manage accidentally to spoil myself for the shock in this week's episode ::sighs::).

But I just wanted to ask - did everyone else notice Audrey using the alias 'Jane Espenson'? Hee! I guess we can thank David Fury for that one. :-)

SCIENTISTS DO NOT ACT LIKE THAT. OR TALK LIKE THAT. OR EVEN THINK LIKE THAT.

I know this because I am one. Just thought I'd say.

I just discovered that the first season of The White Shadow is coming out on DVD. Hee! I loved that show! I used to watch it in reruns in the early 90s when I was living in Newfoundland and actually included Coach Ken Reeves in the acknowledgments of my MSc thesis. :-)

It's being released two days after my birthday - I am so giving it to myself as a gift.

::realises that no one else ever watched it::

::slinks away::

Watched them both last night. I didn't mind the pilot of Bones too much, but the show seems to be getting worse with every episode. The characterisation of the scientists makes my eyes cross. The speed at which they ferret out clues makes my eyes cross. Their space age technology makes my eyes cross. The show is giving me double vision. Which is too bad because I think David Boraneaz is doing a pretty good job of acting. And I kind of like his skinny ties.

The geek needing advice on sex thing made me gag, but his line (paraphrasing here) "I understand her words, but don't comprehend their meaning" made me laugh. Objects In Space, anyone?

And, holy cow, did Bones herself ever need a bra in the opening scenes where she was walking towards the body!

Third episode tonight - and two big references to BtVS and AtS: the movie at the theatre was called "Once More With Feeling" and the cat was named Angel. I love this kind of stuff.

Also, I've seen people wearing blue gloves in two of the episodes - I wonder if that's a shout-out to Firefly?

I read this article on The Inside yesterday and it sounded pretty cool. Lots of ex-BtVS and AtS players involved, plus Adam Baldwin as one of the stars. I watched the first episode tonight.

So, anyone other than me wondering if Jack's gonna be recruited by Section One next fall? :-)

There were several shout-outs to Nikita this season - most of which I missed, but my cousin picked up on - not to mention the fact that Alberta Watson played both Madeleine and Erin Driscoll.

It'd be cool.

This week's 24. )

This weekend I finally got around to watching the Joan of Arcadia episode from two weeks ago and was amused to see that Principal Snyder (Armin Shimerman) was an (undigested) guest star.

Also finally watched the two most recent 24 episodes and I just have to say: Edgar/Chloe - OTP. Hee! They're both such utter misfits.

Tonight's Lost )

Read on Whedonesque today that David Fury has quit the show and will be moving on to The Inside and next season's 24. I've liked his episodes the best - I hope Lost can keep its momentum. It should be interesting to see what he'll do with 24. (A little less torture at the drop of a hat would be nice.)

I need more Lost icons.

So, I'm watching the season finale of '24' tonight, and Chase gets into fisticuffs with the virus-carrying dude, and they are punching and kicking and throwing each other around, and it's all very tense because - you know - vials of exceedingly lethal virus just waiting to be broken, and you know something's gotta go wrong because still too much time left in the episode and it's the season finale after all, and... and I'm sitting on the couch saying OUT LOUD to an empty room "Buffy fights way better than you guys do."

I need a life.
