I need books for the beach! I've just ordered [livejournal.com profile] herself_nyc's What Love Means To You People, but I need more. Few of my favourite authors seem to have anything new out at the moment - rec me?

Oooh, I'm reading "Boy Still Missing" right now and it's nice. (Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress comes to mind, if you haven't read that one yet.)

I am still deeply in love with everything Neil Gaiman has ever written.

Have you read any of the Harry Dresden books by Jim Butcher? The latest in that series just came out about a week ago. And if you've never read them, then I *highly* recommend picking up the first book, Storm Front (and maybe the second, Fool Moon).

Everyone should treat themselves to Lore Segal's marvelous novel Her First American. I also want people to read Rebecca West's The Fountain Overflows and Laurie Colwin's Goodbye Without Leaving.

I'm an unashamed fan of Margaret Atwood, and I know she's just put a new book out called The Penelopiad which I haven't read, but I really want to. It's a spin on the Odysseus myth if that kind of thing interests you :) Otherwise The Blind Assassin is one of my favourite books of ever :)
Have you checked out [livejournal.com profile] librumincendere? It's a book club for Joss fans.

Beach read huh? Ok, light but not fluffy... Don't Look Down by Jennifer Crusie : This first collaboration between best-selling romance writer Crusie and adventure-thriller writer Mayer is a rare delight. Mayer's delectably dry sense of humor perfectly complements Crusie's brand of sharp wit, and together the two have cooked up a sexy, sassy, and smart combination of romance and suspense that is simply irresistible.

I'm currently reading "The Shadow of the Wind" by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, which I'm really enjoying so far. It's a coming-of-age story as well as a mystery, in which our young hero Daniel discovers that someone is systematically destroying all the books of a favorite author..but why? (cue ominous music)

Enjoy the beach!

'The Nine Taylors' by Dorothy L. Sayers. A detective story that is also one of my favourite novels. :)
