Hee - I was going to watch Bones and House while packing a bunch more boxes tonight, but then I noticed in the TV guide that Daydream Believer: The Monkees' Story was on. So that was what got watched and now I'm all awash in nostalgia. Aaah - the Monkees. My first fandom. And Micky was my first major crush.

The actors who played them did a pretty good job - they looked alot like them and had their mannerisms down really well. I recognised plot elements from various biographies I have read, though the ending was quite a bit more saccharin than what actually happened.

Just like all of your toys, I don't wanna be
Just like all of your toys, I don't need to be
Just like all of your, just like all of your toys...

Darn! I wish I'd known that was going to be on. I would have recorded it!

It was on Bravo, which may be a Canadian channel? (I'm not sure about this.)

Oh, man, I was all about Mickey. I never missed an episode of that show when it was on. I could (and to a great extent still can) sing all of their songs. ::is dork:: :)

I can sing most of their songs too. ::is a dork with you::

I own more Monkee records, CDs, and DVDs than anyone you know. Of course, I don't admit that to everyone. :-)

I admit. When I was little I adored the Monkees! I remember coming home after school each day and watching the show on TV. Then when they did the big reunion thing in the early eighties I went out and bought a ton of their albums.

Davy Jones was my big crush though. Daydream Believer cinched it for me.

I have all their albums, plus all of them again on CD, and all the shows on DVD. And I've seen them in concert twice. The only time I ever shrieked at a concert was the first time I saw Micky. :-D

Dude...our similarities scare me. They were my first fandom too - although my crush was on Davy...then Peter...lol. Yes, I was watching them on reruns in the mid-eighties but that didn't seem to matter...I went out, bought the tapes and learned every song off by heart ;)

Mary, mary, where you goin' to?
Mary, mary, can i go too.
This one thing i will vow ya,
I'd rather die than to live without ya.
Mary, mary, where you goin' to?

Oh yeah...lovin' it! *goes to dig out Monkees CDs*

Hee - clearly we share the same questionable taste. Though it was always Micky for me. I went online last night and bought his autographed autobiography. There is no hope for me!

Sometime in the morning
You’ll just reach out and she will be there,
Close as the summer air...

I just got the LJ comment notification now...shocking I know...

But I needed to say that particular song is my absolute favorite! We are so very cool.

Oh squee, Mickey was my first crush too!!

Lame story, about 20 years ago, I was looking for a babysitter for my daughter. A nanny arrived and I interviewed her, and she told me she was Mickey Dolenz's aunt!! LOL, I wanted to hire her so bad, but there was no way I could afford a nanny!

Aww, I've always been a big ol' Monkees fan, too! I remember when I was a kid, being in awe of their song Last Train To Clarksville because I thought it was about Clarksville, Texas, our little county seat town. I couldn't imagine how The Monkees knew about my Clarksville, and I was so young and dumb that it didn't occur to me that there might be other towns and cities named Clarksville, too. ;)

Hee - put Clarksville in your sequel to Canis Familiar. Only you and I will know why it's there. :-)

I love the Monkees! Actually have alot of their episodes and most of their CDs, too. JUSTUS is my favorite (just something about "older, angrier Monkees" that makes me happy) I watched Daydream Believers when it came out. Also watched the Monkees reunion (and have it on tape) Oooh, my silly silly boys. And probably my favorite ep? Mmm, Michael Nesmith dressed as a girl :p

I think JUSTUS is the only Monkee CD I don't have. I saw them twice (sans Nez) on reunion tours and squeaked like a total fangirl when I first saw Micky in real life. One of my favourite episodes was the one where Mike tries to sell a song (I think it was Gonna Buy Me A Dog) to a recording company and is turned down. The other boys spend much of the episode trying to cheer him up. Apparently, I developed my kink for hurt/comfort early on. :-)
