So, not my best day ever. Not my worst either, but still. The hormones are a-raging, the curtain rod for my living room drapes fell on my head yesterday morning because the wood around the window is as dry as sawdust, work stuff is not going swimmingly, etc. etc. yada yada yada. Boo hoo, poor me. The upshot of it all is that I arrived home tonight in a spectacularly bad mood. So I reheated some leftovers, poured a big glass of wine, and sat down to watch Ariel. (Yes, I'm watching Firefly for the fourth time in a year. What?)

Such a great episode, such a great show - how the frilly heck did it get cancelled?!? I wonder anew every time. Also, Joss has such a knack for choosing the right actors - love 'em or hate 'em, they do the job and so much more. The moment that got me this time: Mal's trying to get past the ornery doctor in the hospital on Ariel who is blocking his way into the med supply room. While they bicker, Zoe slips behind the doc and zaps him with the defibrillators. He crumples to the groud. Zoe just stands there, defibrillators still raised, looking at Mal, and says ever-so-matter-of-factly, "Clear." ::dies laughing:: I had to watch it twice.

It amazes me just how much of Zoe's personality is infused into that one single word. Somehow, Joss picks actors who not only get it, but can express it just right. There are a thousand more moments in BtVS and AtS where this same thing happens. How much do I wish Joss still had a show on the air? 'Cause a movie every couple of years just isn't enough. ::sighs::

I feel better now. Joss, he comes through for me every time. I feel more than a bit silly and fangirly admitting that his shows can do this for me - but, hey, it's better than heroin, right?

I can get on with the rest of my evening now and maybe not even bite Jim's head off when he comes through the door late ('cause he's always late). Bless you, Joss.

Indeed. Which is a good thing given my penchant for buying box sets. Party of Five S2 in next up in the queue. I weep at the melodrama and it is all very cleansing.
