Firefly

This weekend I (finally) started watching the Firefly DVDs that I got for Christmas. I know I watched one of the episodes on TV when it was airing, but I didn't recognise anything so I guess the episode I saw wasn't the first one. Which may have explained my confusion and why I gave up on the series so quickly the first time around.

I'm finding it more interesting this time (now that I know what's going on - that always helps), though it's kind of weird seeing "Jasmine" getting into fisticuffs and "Caleb" not being a complete jerk. It's also a bit odd watching "Ron Harris" from Barney Miller as a minister on a space ship. :-)

In other actor connections, I know that Joss likes to reuse his favourites, so when the actor playing Lawrence Dobson started looking familiar, I thought maybe I'd seen him before. I even figured out from where by the end of the episode: he was Richard in AtS S1's The Bachelor Party. I checked him out on IMDB and discovered that he was also Ken in BtVS's S2 Anne. Which has been bugging me forever - every time I've seen that episode, I kept trying to figure out who he was. For a while, I even wondered if it was Andy Hallet - I was getting pretty desperate.

Further IMDB reading revealed to me that there are four actors who have been on all three of Joss Whedon's shows: Jonathan M. Woodward (which I already knew - Knox, Holden, and Tracey in a FF episode that I haven't seen yet), Carlos Jacott (Lawrence Dobson, Richard, and Ken), Jeff Ricketts (the council thug Weatherby in both BtVS S4 and AtS S1, the spider monster in AtS S4, and Blue Glove #1 in FF), and, most amusing of all, Andy Umberger (Dortmunder Captain in FF, Dr. Ronald Meltzer in AtS S1 I Fall to Pieces, and - hee! - D'Hoffryn in BtVS).

I had no idea that Dr. Ronald Meltzer and D'Hoffryn were one and the same. This amuses me beyond the telling.

...with Jim in it. Himself arrived Saturday evening after spending most of the day at work. We had a mostly quiet weekend just hanging out and watching several Buffy episodes (he's up to The Wish now). Late this afternoon, he decided to give himself a haircut - he buzzes it off pretty short with his beard trimmer. He's surprisingly good at it but, of course, needs help with the back which he can't see.

I tell ya, no one should put blades in my hands and ask me to cut hair. I was supposed to be trimming it all to the same length over his collar. What I actually did was give him a sizeable bald patch behind his left ear.

::blushes violently::

God, I'm such a clod. Fortunately, he's a good-natured guy and thought it was funny.

Following this minor fiasco, we went out for some dinner. I guess the restaurant had just cleaned its windows - the door is full on plate glass and Jim walked straight into it, apparently thinking for some reason that there was nothing there. He hit it so hard I thought he'd broken his nose. I think maybe the new haircut air conditioned his brain. :-) Pretty much everyone in the restaurant was in one state of snickering or another when we finally made it all the way inside. One fellow came up (still laughing), introduced himself as a lawyer, and suggested Jim sue for cleaning their windows so well.

Hee!

The Wish

Apparently, I'm in spam-mode at the moment.

As mentioned in the previous post, we watched The Wish this weekend. Something I noticed a few viewings ago: Anya gives her necklace to Cordelia and urges her to make a wish, which she does. Cordy dies at the hands (well, fangs) of Vamp!Willow and Vamp!Xander. Giles takes the necklace from Cordelia's body to study and figures out the whole Anyanka/Vengeance Demon deal. He then summons Anyanka to try to put the world back to normal and she appears - wearing the necklace. Giles quickly figures out that the necklace is her power center, tears it off her, and smashes it.

How did Anyanka get the necklace back? And why didn't Giles wonder why there were suddenly two of them - one that he'd brought home to study and the other around her neck?

Not that it bothers me a whole heck of alot - this is still one of my favourite episodes.

And now I will stop spamming and head off to bed. Much flist to catch up on tomorrow and I see that there are new chapters up for [livejournal.com profile] jwaneeta's latest fic - yay!
