Dec. 7th, 2007 10:06 pmI'm making more of an effort to post this week, can you tell?
Jim and I took the boys to see The Golden Compass tonight. The gigantic poster has been hanging over the theatre next to my office for the past month or so, and I figured we'd see it eventually (because who doesn't like armoured polar bears?), so I bought the trilogy that it's based on last week. I finished the first book two nights ago. It definitely held my interest, but it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. It's won all kinds of awards, but I thought the writing could have been better, frankly.
The movie was pretty good, too. They messed around with the plot some--most of the important elements were in there, but the order of events was rather jumbled. However, ( spoilers under the cut. )
MiddleJim and LittlestJim both liked it. LittlestJim said this with an air of surprise; he's in a phase where he's predisposed to think that everything is going to be boring, for some reason. MiddleJim said he wanted it to go on for about three more hours.
Afterwards, we went over to the mini-arcade, and LittlestJim beat me in a game of air hockey, 7-5. The bright side, as MiddleJim pointed out, was at least I didn't blow a tendon this time.
