To laptop or not to laptop: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The pains and achings of lugging it around,
Or to take arms against...
Er, scratch that. I have to get on a plane and cross a border on Thursday--better not mention taking arms against anything.
Should I bring it?

We're closer than pages that stick in a book
More intriguing than a fic that starts with a hook
Wherever you find it, you'll find me, just look...
I'll stop now. I'm all about mangling the classics tonight.
Does the hotel have free wifi? More to the point, will there be anyone left on LJ to read any posts we make? :-)

Date: 2006-07-18 12:18 am (UTC)It's not so hard to get a laptop through security at an airport these days. Just be ready to pull it out of the case and send it through the X-Ray machine by itself. They don't generally ask you to turn it on anymore.
Also, just random advice (if you don't fly that often), wear slip-on shoes that you can step out of easily. Nowadays, you'll see half the people on any plane wearing shower clogs or flip-flops. It speeds everything up if you don't have to sit down an tie your shoes after going through security. :-)

Date: 2006-07-18 12:34 am (UTC)I had dinner with my father tonight and he mentioned the shoe thing, too. Birkenstocks it is. It's too hot right now to wear anything else anyway.

I only held off buying shoes today because I had a very rough Physical Therapy session and was snorfling on the way home. You must be sure to point out the new shooage to me.
(Actually, I do have some new shoes that I can't decide whether or not they fit really properly - a leather version of my favorite Chaco's sandals and I don't know whether they should be so slippy)

Date: 2006-07-19 01:15 am (UTC)I think one pair are Tender Tootsies (hey, I'm middle aged) and the other some nameless brand from Brazil (I'm also cheap!).
I sometimes have a hard time buying shoes--I'm a size 5 and many stores around here don't carry anything smaller than a size 6. Also, my feet are a bit wider than most size 5's. If I find some that I don't hate and that don't hurt to wear, I tend to snatch them up.
Can you sand the soles of the slippy sandals? :-)

Date: 2006-07-19 01:16 am (UTC)Yes, I'd sand them. Or go out to the sidewalk and to the twist.

Date: 2006-07-18 05:43 am (UTC)I've flown and taken my laptop before, and getting through security isn't bad, you just have to take it out of it's carrying case and let them run it through the Xray machine, so you can carry it on to the plane.
