Eeeeeeeeee! Canada and the U.S. are tied for gold in the team show-jumping competition. They're going to a jump off, and I found the live feed on the CBC website.

Canada hasn't medalled in an equestrian event at the Olympics since 1968. Ian Millar, veteran of nine Olympic Games, has never medalled.

This is going to kill me. Why are the Olympics not a two-week national holiday?

ETA: The U.S. won the jump off--Jill Henselwood had one rail down. Oh well! Still--a silver medal! ::squees some more::

Ian Millar has waited SO long. He's won everything over and over except an Olympic medal. But now he has! ::continues to squee::

HEE! I don't know. Honestly, I don't know much about these events, but I do know who Ian is. My Stepmom has a GORGEOUS print of him on Big Ben hanging above her couch. He totally deserves the medal.

My mother, sister, and I used to go to the Royal Winter Fair every year to watch Ian and Big Ben compete. What a great horse he was. Built like a giraffe, he always seemed to be going so slowly because his legs were so long. He actually made Ian look not tall.

My mother was disappointed when Ian wasn't chosen to carry the flag in the opening ceremonies. Maybe he'll get it in the closing, although they usually give it to a gold-medal winner. Still, he has a shot at that in the individual competition on Thursday. ::crosses fingers::

Ian lost his wife to cancer last year. Mom called me during the competition this morning and told me that he was competing with a photo of her in his pocket. Thinking about that makes me tear up.

At 61, he's gotta be one of the oldest medal winners ever. I'm just so pleased for him!
