EEEEEEEEEE!!!: The Sequel

The individual show jumping is on today, and Eric Lamaze of Canada is tied with a Swede for the gold! They're going to a jump off. There's a seven-way tie for the bronze, so there's a jump off for that too.

Sadly, Ian Millar had two jumps down in the first round, so he's out of it. Jill Henselwood had two knockdowns--the second one pretty much demolished the jump--and a refusal. She withdrew without finishing the course.

I took the morning off work to watch this. :-) Go Eric!

ETA: He is ERIC THE GOLD!!!!! WOOT!!!!!!!!!!! He had just a single rail down all Olympics--amazing!

It's been a good competition for Canada, that's for sure. :-)

I still say that the horse should get the medal. :P

After he landed the last jump, Eric pointed down at Hickstead's head to say, "It was all him." They do actually bring the horses out for the medal ceremony, although they don't make them climb the podium. :-)

I used to compete in hunter classes when I was in high school, and I have to say that nothing irked me more than riders who tossed their reins indifferently to their groom and walked away after finishing a course. My pony was my buddy, and why get into riding if you don't love having a relationship and being a team with your horse?

I loved watching him win. His smile was so radiant.

He done some dumb things in his career, but he's definitely the poster boy for what someone can do when given a second (even third) chance. I would have loved to have seen Ian Millar win an individual medal, but I think Eric needed it more. And with only one rail down in eight rounds, he earned it!
