Forgot to add: If there's only one Slayer in all the world (usually), why on Earth is the Council so large as to have branches in Munich and Australia and where ever else, where do they get all their money (they seem to be a very wealthy organisation), and what in the heck do they do all day?

Well, they do usually track down the potentials when they're young and spend a lot of time training them... Buffy was just one who slipped through the cracks. Plus, I always assumed that the Watchers did do a bit of the fighting evil stuff. Maybe not doing a lot of going out and staking vampires or the hand to hand action, but more in the spell-casting and research sort of arena.

Yes, I guess they were like a university of the supernatural. Who were strangely reluctant to share their knowledge with Buffy.

Just their luck that the one who slipped through the cracks was the Slayer to end all Slayers. Sort of literally. Or inversely literally. You know what I mean.

Although there was only one Slayer at a time, I always got the impression that, until Buffy, it was a very fast turnover. So you might have one girl called in Munich, die after a year and then another is called in Australia. And then Zurich the year after that, Singapore in two years, etc etc.... And it seemed from Kendra's story that they took the training of Potentials very seriously.

As for money, I suppose they have been around since the year dot. Presumably they invested wisely :-)
