I forgot to post when I watched the last three episodes of Firefly. I must say, the end came all too soon. Alas, Firefly, we hardly knew ye! At least there is Serenity to look forward to in the fall.
I was just browsing TV Tome and found the following tidbits I hadn't known before:
Summer Glau, who plays River, had only one acting role before Firefly - playing the prima ballerina in the Angel episode 'Waiting in the Wings'. Joss does like to re-use his actors.
Kaylee is short for Kaywinnit Lee, and her last name is Frye.
In the UK DVD boxset release, according to the booklet, the episode 'Our Mrs Reynolds' was written by Joss Wheldon not Joss Whedon. (
flurblewig? Can you confirm this?) (Incidentally, TV Tome gave this episode a rating of 4.3/8 - what, are they nuts? This was a GREAT episode!)
Serenity takes place 6 months after 'Objects In Space'.
'Out of Gas': Gina Torres spent much of the episode unconscious because in real life she was off getting married. The button which Mal is supposed to hit to call the shuttles back was stolen from the set by Alan Tudyk (Wash) and sent to Joss Whedon when the show was cancelled with a note saying "When your miracle gets here, call us back". (That is a terribly long and awkward sentence, but I didn't write it!)
'Ariel': Note that River appears to be slashing at the blue-sun Alliance symbol on Jayne's chest rather than Jayne himself. She similarly attacked the same symbol on the cans in 'Shindig'. (Huh. I hadn't picked up on that.)
'The Message': Joss Whedon appears in this episode as one of Tracey's family members (I missed that too - will have to check it out when I get home tonight.) - Joss himself said that this episode was the funeral for the show; hence his appearance at one. In the scenes filmed on the bridge, some feature the shuttle call back button which we first see in 'Out of Gas', but some don't. As mentioned above, this is because Alan Tudyk (Wash) took the button when he thought the filming was complete, not realising that pick-up shots still had to be done on the bridge.
