Movies and Whatnot

So, Jim and I went to see Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on Saturday. Partly because I wanted to see it because I loved the books and the BBC series. And partly because it was rumoured that the Serenity trailer would precede it. (Jim tolerates my obsessions very well - he didn't even complain when I made him watch the trailer on my computer. Twice. :-)
I'm sad to report that they did NOT show the Serenity trailer. :-( I'm also sad to report that I wasn't terribly impressed with the movie. I thought it came off rather flat - the books and the original series were much funnier. Though it was amusing seeing the cameo appearance of the original Marvin in the queue.
In other movie news, I keep seeing the ads for The Interpreter on TV and every time I do a double take thinking that Nicole Kidman is Julie Benz. I hadn't noticed before how similar they look. Would that it were Julie Benz - Nicole Kidman seems to be in everything these days.
Finally, it is raining again here today. As it has been for many days now. My mood is starting to imitate the weather. I wish the sun would come out.

Date: 2005-05-02 04:10 pm (UTC)They were going at breakneck pace and had to more nod at some of the book's best jokes rather than actually telling them, but I was reciting most of it in my head (and sometimes, to the long-suffering bemusement of my neighbour, out loud) anyway, so I still got all the fun :)
But Zaphod didn't look enough like David Bowie for my tastes.

Date: 2005-05-02 05:38 pm (UTC)And word on Nicole Kidman/Julie Benz! I kept seeing poster on bus stops that had most of Kidman's face cropped out and I kept thinking 'damn, that's a fine Darla icon there' :-)
Bad weather! ::shoos the rain away:: It is (finally) quite lovely over here today. The sun is shining and we ate dinner on the patio. You should do one of your famous impulsive life-changing things and move over here! Bring Jim, he'd love it :-)

Dude, I so wish! I've only been to England once and spent most of my time at a conference in Plymouth, but I loved what little I saw. I felt like I'd walked straight into an Enid Blyton book. :-) I was in constant squee-mode the entire week.
The main client of Jim's company is based in France. They'll be doing the first flight of an airplane (he's an engineer) later this month and wanted to send him over for the event. He's turned them down because he can't find his passport (it's still lost in storage somewhere as he hasn't yet moved into his new house and is hopelessly disorganised) to which I say argh! I would have packed myself into his suitcase.
Dating someone who lived in the Netherlands had its drawbacks, but it was nice going to Europe twice a year. ::sighs longingly for the Old World::

Date: 2005-05-02 10:04 pm (UTC)But some people thought it was great, so what do I know?
If they'd shown the frickin' Serenity trailer, it'd have been worthwhile. Phoo!
